I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th of July fireworks. I received a nice thank you note from a Sheridan couple who viewed the fireworks from the highway and some other positive feedback from Ranchester citizens. Thank you everyone for observing the ban on personal fireworks. I know it was a disappointment, but it has always been the Town’s philosophy to follow the county’s fire ban. I don’t want Ranchester to be the only place in the county that allows fireworks. I hope we can continue to celebrate the 4th of July in the future. I am concerned, however, with the potential shut down of the fireworks at the Big Horn Equestrian Center and the impact that will have on the traffic coming to view our fireworks. I have always viewed our fireworks display as a small alternative to the big display in Big Horn.
Ranchester is one of the fastest growing communities in Wyoming. Our growth over the past 10 years is about 2% per year, but I think in the last 18 months the growth rate has accelerated based on new subdivisions and building permits. I often have to remind people that growth, when handled well, is a good thing. There are many small communities in Wyoming that are declining in population and struggling. The 2020 census numbers are scheduled to come out sometime in August. The current 2019 census population estimate for Ranchester is 1,041. It will be interesting to know what the official numbers will be.
With all this growth, it is important that the mayor and town council get your input about the direction and type of growth you see in Ranchester’s future.
A fact about Ranchester: During the recent hot spell, the Water Treatment Plant produced 560 gallons of potable water per minute.
Quote of the Day:
I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives.
I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.
